Baking With My 2 Year Old

This week my 2 year old becomes my 3 year old and he’s been talking of nothing but his birthday cake for WEEKS.

I knew that my little mini-chef just HAD to have a hand in making his cake, so before making his ACTUAL cake I experimented with the recipe first, as I hadn’t made it in a long, long time and certainly not with the organic ingredients we have become used to.

He was only too happy to stand next to me and measure out, beat, mix and fold together all the ingredients for his birthday cake.

He’s been insisting on a strawberry cake and when we went shopping for cake decorations he really, really wanted pink sprinkles so I got him Hopper’s Natural Pink Sprinkles – so his cake is free from artificial colors and other nasties.

I let him decide where and how he’d like to decorate his cake with his precious pink sprinkles. He decided to go for a giant circle of sprinkles!

Of course I let him have a tiny taste of the cake mixture he so lovingly prepared…

The moment the cake was in the oven he was already asking WHEN he would be eating his cake, so I just knew I’d made the right decision in baking a “test” cake that he could sample straight away.

I love the cake he made, it may not look “perfect”, but it was his decorative vision and who am I to argue with that!

We enjoyed the cake as soon as it had cooled and it tasted perfect!

I’ll be sharing the details of his REAL cake soon, including my Mom’s Hot Milk Sponge Recipe – adapted to only include natural ingredients.
