I adore Kombucha and drink the store bought lemon variety fairly often… It’s been getting an expensive habit so I looked into making it myself. The other week I attended a workshop to learn how to make Kombucha, the class included the much needed SCOBY, which made the whole process of making Kombucha from scratch a LOT easier! Making Kombucha From Scratch has turned out to be an incredibly rewarding experience and one I will be continuing for years to come.
As my first batch is brewing away, I’m not yet an expert Kombucha maker, so I felt it best to share a couple of videos which will help you on your Kombucha making journey:
I suggest getting hold of a SCOBY from a friend or buying one online. It is possible to make your own one, it’s a lengthy process and you can learn how to grow a SCOBY from scratch here:
Once you have your SCOBY, here’s How to brew Kombucha:
I’ve started my Kombucha making with 1 single litre which I hope in time I will grow to dozens of litres and maybe even a continuous brew too in time. (More on that to come!)
I’m keeping my 1st batch pure and simple without any flavorings – but I just can’t wait to get experimenting with different fruit combinations – I’ll be sure to share our favorites with you!
I have a couple of books which I’ve also been referring to for inspiration about flavors and the Kombucha making process in general:
Over to you – have you made Kombucha before? I’d love to hear your tips!
