Baking Bread With Kids

The other day I embarked on an exciting cooking activity – Baking Bread With Kids. I love cooking with my kids and bread is something we haven’t yet made together so I was looking forward to introducing them to the world of homemade bread making.

We decided on making a Challah Dough and then used the dough to bake 1 large loaf and 4 mini loaves, which you could consider to be bread rolls.

First off we measured out the ingredients. My 3 year old took great delight in handling the big bowl of flour.

The dough was divided between us and each of my kids had their very own portion to knead in their own way.

They both INSISTED that colored sprinkles were needed (natural coloring of course!) and who was I to argue with their creative process? So, I obliged and they took great pride in filling and kneading the colored sprinkles into their bread dough.

We plaited the loaves for baking, though my 5 year old decided his would be round instead, and placed them onto a baking tray.

We brushed the finished loaves with an egg wash and topped them with sesame seeds.
