The Perfect Lunch Bag For Long Haul Travel With Kids
We are counting down to our end of year month long trip to Tokyo, London and Dublin. I’m a bit of an organizational nerd and love planning out and researching every tiny detail relating to our trip.
Recently I’ve been looking into our carry on luggage. I wasn’t happy with what we took on last year’s long haul trip to London so I’ve been working out what our carry on is going to look like and start accumulating the necessary luggage.
I’m not sure if you realize this, but most airlines will allow you to take one main piece of hand luggage (a backpack or cabin sized suitcase) plus a handbag/laptop bag. The kids obviously won’t be carrying a handbag or laptop bag but I’ve decided that their bag will be a lunch bag each. (PLEASE check with your airline about luggage rules when you travel). I don’t see this being a problem as the backpacks they will be wearing will be super light and they can carry their lunch bag as their “hand bag”.
The beauty of a lunch bag means that all travel snacks will be located in ONE PLACE. Last time it was a bit chaotic – there were muesli bars and random bags of nuts and fruit in corners of most bags, which made it incredibly tricky when it got time when we actually wanted a snack, never-mind trying to work out what food we had on us to declare at customs. As I said – chaotic!
I’ve been on the hunt for lunch bags that meet the “hand bag” size requirement while being big enough for a days worth of travel snacks. I have found our solution!
Skip Hop Lunch Bags are PERFECT. The designs are super cute, they are spacious, meet the sizing requirement and best of all – they have a clip on the top handle which you can clip to your own bag when your little darling doesn’t want to carry it any longer. (Which happens after about 5 minutes when the novelty of carrying their own lunch bag wears off!)
What do I plan to pack in each Skip Hop Lunch Bag? Here’s a snapshot:
A make your own trail mix is the perfect travel snack option. I get my kids to each choose from a selection of nourishing ingredients and make up their own bag full. (See more here!)
