Simply Nigella Cookbook Review
As promised, in the previous post – going forward, each Monday I’ll be hitting “Publish” on a new post. In it I’ll be sharing what’s inspired me in the previous week, any thoughts or recipes or in this case a cookbook review.
Before we get to the review, here’s what’s been happening this week:
The past week I’ve been very active on my YouTube channel, sharing a new video almost every day.
This is going to continue going forward, so rather than wait for my weekly emails, subscribe to my YouTube channel to be notified when new videos are up. (Click here to subscribe!)
We celebrated the first day of summer here in Australia with overflowing bowls of summer fruit. You can see a quick video of that here:
In 2 weeks we are going on a mega family holiday to Tokyo, London and Dublin. We’ve been counting down for MONTHS and can’t believe we are leaving so soon.
In anticipation of our Tokyo trip, I’ve been looking up Japanese dishes and recipes. I stumbled on Tamagoyaki – Japanese Omelettes.
Here’s a video of my first attempt at making them:
Each week my grocery shopping routine includes a visit to our local Aldi.
Here’s a video of a typical grocery haul:
I’ve had the ingredients in my kitchen for a couple of weeks to make a tiramisu. I finally got around to making it.
I made a Chocolate Tiramisu, without alcohol or coffee and you can find out how here:
Simply Nigella Cookbook Review
Simply Nigella is quintessential Nigella – simple, honest, homestyle cooking that will quickly become menu staples and family favorites.
I’m absolutely in love with this book. There’s just so much I wanted to make from it, I didn’t know where to start.
Even my cat finds comfort in sitting on my well tabbed copy of the book…
What I’ve Cooked
The first dish I cooked was Sweet Potato Macaroni Cheese.
Not only is this recipe a delicious spin on the classic mac and cheese but the dish also introduced me to Sage – a herb I’d never cooked with before.
I’m the first to usually “adapt a recipe to my tastes” but with Nigella’s recipes I always follow them to the letter first because I just love how her dishes turn out. (And then I may tweak them to suit us afterwards!) This dish was simply flawless and one which I’ll be cooking again and again and again for years to come.
Having a weakness for sweets I couldn’t resist sampling one of the many intriguing sweet dishes in the book. I started with the Bitter Orange Tart. Oh. My. Goodness. This tart is perfection! It’s SO easy to make and has been declared as the “best sweet ever” by my sweet discerning hubby.
What I Want To Cook
I ran out of coloured tabs while flicking through the book – there’s just SO much I want to cook! Here’s what’s on the top of my wishlist:
- Brocamole
- Chicken Cosima
- Make Ahead Mashed Potatoes (Just Genius!)
- Cauliflower and Cashew Curry
- Crunchy Chicken Cutlets
- Dark and Sumptuous Chocolate Cake
- Salted Chocolate Tart
- Lemon Pavlova
- Nutella Brownies
- Superfood Breakfast Bars
