Collingwood Children’s Farm Market
Once a month there’s a farmers market on at Collingwood Children’s Farm, which is just outside of Melbourne City.
We hadn’t been in AGES and when the weather was just right the other week (as in, neither rain nor extreme heat predicted) we made the trip and enjoyed a fun family day out.
Entry to the Farmers Market costs $2 per adult and children are free, which is great value when compared with the cost of visiting the farm on non market days.
On arriving at the farm the kids were delighted to come face to face with a field of friendly horses. After a quick pat we made our way to the actual farmers market.
The market is nestled amongst the trees and you get the feeling as if you’re out on a farm in the countryside, while actually being at the edge of the city.
It’s truly one of the very best markets in Melbourne. There are just so many stores boasting local, fresh, in season produce that you’re spoilt for choice.
As we are in the middle of Autumn the seasonal produce was sensational. In particular the apples were just so sweet and juicy – nothing like bland store bought apples. We bought a bag full and the kids were offered free apples to sample too.
Once we were done with our farmer market shop (check out the video for the full haul!) we visited some of the other farm animals.
The boys found this particular scene hilarious as it looks as if there is a cow’s head emerging from the rear end of the other cow. (You have to understand, being boys, anything to do with bottoms is HILARIOUS!) I have to admit that I find it pretty funny myself, or maybe I’ve just been around the boys for too long!
After a full morning of shopping and walking through the farm we enjoyed a leisurely brunch/lunch at Abbotsford Convent Bakery. My Husband and I shared Mushies on Toast and the Southern Chicken Burger. Both were outstanding and full of flavour. The boys each enjoyed a pie which they greedily devoured and enjoyed.
We filled out pram and bags full of fresh produce and in the video below I talk you through all of the goodies.
