Keto Hot Chocolate – Easy Homemade Low Carb & Sugar Free Friendly Hot Cocoa Recipe with almond milk, coconut milk and heavy cream + Video Tutorial.
Keto Hot Chocolate Recipe
I’ve been LOVING experimeting with low carb, keto friendly hot drink recipes through the my Keto Diet Journey .
And, this Keto Hot Chocolate Recipe is one of the many happy results of experimention… throwing different keto friendly ingredients together in different quantities until I have the recipe just right for you.
Once you get into the Keto Diet you discover that actually, the ingredients you have at your disposal are vast and delicious and there are so many nourishing meals and treats that you can still enjoy. (I’d like to say you can still have your cake and eat it but that would be too much of a cliche, so I won’t!)
This easy Keto hot chocolate is so easy to make and is super rich and chocolatey. Yes, it’s high in fat, so be sure to account for it in your daily macros.
It’s SO worth it though as it’s just as good as (if not better than) a “regular” hot chocolate, yet made with very few carbs and rich in healthy fats.
This is the perfect, warming low carb dessert drink on a cool day and it’s a therapeutic task to mix the ingredients slowly over a low heat while your hot chocolate warms up.
Best Hot Chocolate Ingredients
Here are the simple ingredients that you’ll need to make the sugar free hot chocolate recipe:
Cocoa Powder – use dark chocolate raw cacao powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, natural cocoa powder or whatever other powdered chocolate you usually include in your mug of hot chocolate.
Sweetener – include your favorite sweetener that you usually use in keto recipes to sweeten the low-carb hot chocolate. Choose from stevia, monk fruit sweetener, erythritol or any other keto friendly sweetener.
Almond Milk – unsweetened almond milk is used to keep the carb count down in the hot beverage. Be sure to read the nutrition panel on the almond milk you choose to be sure it’s completely unsweetened and doesn’t have any hidden carbs or sugars in the ingredients.
Cream – to make a creamy keto mug of hot chocolate, include a portion of cream. Choose from heavy whipping cream, double cream, heavy cream or even coconut cream, if you’d prefer to make a dairy free rich hot chocolate.
Coconut Milk – full fat coconut milk is included to make a comforting drink that’s super creamy and rich in healthy fats.
If you’d like to elevate the fat content even further and make a hot chocolate version of a bulletproof coffee, then you can stir through a half a teaspoon of either butter, coconut oil or MCT Oil.
For an extra indulgent finish to your keto-friendly hot chocolate, you can top your mug with a generous swirl of whipped cream or even keto marshmallows.
