Pantry Makeover – Pantry Organization Ideas 2016
Early each year I attempt a Pantry Makeover, to try and keep my pantry organized and have it stocked with in date items that are easy to find. Well, 2016 has zoomed past and I have finally gotten around to my annual pantry organisation task.
This year I filmed a video to share my pantry organization ideas and tips with you and how I perform my pantry makeover, to possibly inspire you to think about re-organizing your pantry/food storage area. The video goes into detail, but in brief, here are the steps I follow:
- Empty the ENTIRE pantry onto my dining room table. Checking each item as I go to make sure it’s still in date, tossing out those that are past there use by date. (I’m look at you can of beetroot – best before march 2014.)
- Once the pantry is empty, clean and scrub every shelf and corner and allow to dry.
- Place newspaper down to protect the shelves.
- Slowly and thoughtfully place items back into the pantry, thinking about grouping like items together like cans/jars, oils/vinegar and baking supplies in their own sections. I also am mindful that I have two young boys who like to peer into the pantry and rummage around, so I keep jars and tins as far back in the pantry as possible so none accidentally fall out and cause an unfortunate injury.
This was the first year that I used my newly acquired Cabinet Organizer Shelves. I LOVE how they look in my pantry and I’ve already ordered more to help my pantry look even more neat and organised. (Get yours here!)
For those of you who enjoy a visual representation, here are a couple of photos of the process…

The pantry was then completely emptied, with all it’s contents either binned, donated or placed onto the table to be re-organized and put back into the pantry.
Finally, the items were returned to the pantry, neat and orderly and ready for it’s close up…
