Keto Chocolate Mousse Recipe
Today is Mother’s Day here in Australia and I’ll be spending quality time with my kids and my Mom. This Keto Chocolate Mousse Recipe is the perfect sweet treat to enjoy on Mother’s Day. (Or any day you’d like to satisfy your chocolate cravings!)
This blog was actually born on Mother’s Day SIX years ago, so I get very nostalgic every time it rolls around. Six years ago my kids were 10 months and 2. They are now 6 and 8, so I always go back and read about life with my littlies and can’t understand how time has flown by so quickly.
I’m lucky to share a very special bond with my own Mom. The two of us recently had the time of our lives exploring Japan together.
So – Happy Mother’s Day to all. Enjoy the day and guilt free treats. Just like this.
I’ve shared heaps of low carb desserts on this blog. There’s something therapeutic about preparing desserts like this rich chocolate mousse. Slowly melting and mixing together a delicious dish to share with loved ones.
The macros for this recipe really depend on the chocolate you choose to use. The higher the sugar content, the higher the carbs. Plus – serving size varies, your bowl size and mine are likely to be wildly different!
What I love best about this richly dark chocolate mousse is that there are only 4 ingredients and it couldn’t be easier to put together.
Creating Your Keto Chocolate Mousse
Gather your four keto friendly simple ingredients together – 90% Dark Chocolate or sugar free chocolate chips, Eggs, Unsalted Butter and Stevia, monk fruit sweetener or your keto-friendly sweetener of choice.
Melt the chocolate and butter together. You can do this in a microwave, double boiler or over a low heat in a saucepan.
I opt to very gently melt the ingredients together over a low heat, stirring and watching closely to be sure that it doesn’t burn. Remove as soon as the chocolate and butter has melted and stir in the stevia.
Allow the melted chocolate mixture to cool for a little bit, meanwhile separating the eggs and whisking the yolks together until smooth.
Once the chocolate mixture has cooled, whisk it through the egg yolks.
In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites, in a stand mixer or with a hand mixer, until stiff peaks form and then gently fold the beaten egg whites into the chocolate mixture until fully incorporated and smooth.
Place into the fridge for a couple of hours to set and then enjoy. You can store any leftover mousse in an airtight container and enjoy within a couple of days. (If it lasts that long!)
Recipe Variations
To make a low-carb diet chocolate cheesecake mousse, simply whisk cream cheese into the chocolate mousse mixture.
If you’d like to enhance the flavor of the mousse, you can add in a pinch of sea salt or a half a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Another option is to move the mousse to a piping bag and swirl rounds into individual serving glasses for an elegant low-carb dessert for a dinner party or special occasions.
You can top your easy keto chocolate mousse with whipped cream, fresh berries and shaved or grated chocolate for extra indulgence.

Note that this traditional chocolate mousse has raw eggs to create a light, fluffy mousse, rather than heavy cream or heavy whipping cream, which is often used in chocolate mousse. Be sure to use the freshest eggs possible and not serve to anyone who’s pregnant, to young children or anyone who can’t tolerate raw eggs.
You can serve the fluffy chocolate mousse in any bowl you want, or get hold of some heart shaped bowls or ramekins for a romantic sweet treat.
