Turmeric Oatmeal Recipe
Oatmeal makes such a hearty, budget friendly breakfast option and this turmeric oatmeal is my latest go to meal to start the day with.
It’s nourishing, full of nutritious ingredients, tastes heavenly and a bowl of oatmeal easily keeps me full until lunch time.
It’s similar in flavor to a mug of golden milk, so if you’re a fan of turmeric flavored treats, then you’ll adore this porridge with golden milk flavor that’s like a warm hug.
Healthy Oatmeal Ingredients
There are loads of variations to this recipe, so you can create your own personal bowl full.
Oats – use rolled oats for thick, creamy oats or porridge oats for a finer consistency. (I prefer rolled, so suggest those in the below recipe.)
Milk – I just happened to find a carton of coconut milk for 57 cents the other day, so that’s what I used in this instance. You can use dairy milk, almond milk, oat milk or any other milk you have in your fridge.
I go for 50/50 water and milk so it’s perfectly creamy. You can use all water or all milk if you’d prefer it more milky or not milky at all.
Turmeric – depending on your turmeric tolerance, go for and quarter to a half a teaspoon of ground turmeric. When filming, I went for 1/3 of a teaspoon of the delicious spice and it was perfectly turmeric hued and flavored.
You could add a smidge more for more of a turmeric kick. Or, go for less if you’re unsure of how turmeric oats would taste.

Other Spices – you can add in a pinch of ginger or cinnamon for a turmeric spiced breakfast bowl.
Sweetness Options – this oatmeal calls for some form sweetness, it’s up to you how you’d like to include it. Here are some ideas:
- Sugar, brown sugar or your sweetener of choice
- Honey
- Maple Syrup
- Milk
- Cream
- Yogurt
- Coconut – shredded, desiccated or flaked
- Fresh raspberries, strawberries or blueberries
- Berry compote
- Berry Jam
- Raisins, Sultanas or Cranberries
In this instance I went for a handful of fresh raspberries, which I found reduced at ALDI and a teaspoon of maple syrup for a dreamy bowl of healthy breakfast perfection.
Creamy Oatmeal Toppings Ideas
You can also top your golden oats with a selection of nutritious toppings. Here are some simple ingredients ideas for you that are easy to find at grocery stores:
- Chia Seeds, Sunflower Seeds or Pumpkin Seeds
- Nut Butter such as almond butter, cashew butter or peanut butter
- Hemp seeds or hemp hearts
- Almonds
- Cashews
- Macadamia Nuts
- Vanilla extract
- Sea Salt
- Fresh fruit
- Protein powder
- Chocolate chips or cacao nibs
Turmeric Oatmeal Recipe
- 1/2 Cup Rolled Oats
- 1/2 Cup Milk
- 1/2 Cup Water
- 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- Pinch of Black Pepper
- In a small saucepan combine together the oats, milk and water.
- Place it on the stove top over medium heat.
- Bring up to a simmer and as soon as it starts simmering add in the turmeric and pepper.
- Bubble the oatmeal until it’s creamy and cooked to your liking.
- Pour the oatmeal into a bowl, stir through your sweetness of choice and enjoy.
