Sausage Cottage Pie – Wordless Wednesday

While living in the UK, I was introduced to “Sausage Cottage Pie” at my work canteen, well at least that’s what I call it. I make this from time to time and always reminisce about when I first came across this fun version of the classic Cottage Pie. Basically, you take your favorite Cottage Pie or Shepherd’s Pie Recipe and you replace the mince with sausages. The dish takes on the flavor of the sausages you’re using so it’s different every time.

Include in your Sausage Cottage Pie your favorite vegetables. Mine are an onion, leek, mushrooms and carrots.

I like to use food scissors to cut the sausages into bite sized pieces.

Brown the onion, then sausages before adding the remaining vegetables.

Throw over a tin of chopped tomatoes and a tin full of water and let the pot bubble away until all the veggies are softened.

Remember to boil up a kilo of potatoes for your mash topping.

Assemble your Sausage Cottage Pie in a large baking dish and, using a fork, draw some lines along the top. I made a large one and two cute, smaller ones(as pictured above) for the kids.

Place your Sausage Cottage Pie/s in a 180°C preheated oven for 30 minutes or until the top is browned.
