5 Keto Vegetarian Protein Sources – Low Carb Ketogenic Diet Plan Vegetarian Protein Ideas to enjoy in your breakfast, dinner and meals.
5 Keto Vegetarian Protein Sources
It is possible to follow the low carb, high fat keto diet as a vegetarian. It just takes research and planning to ensure you stay well nourished.
Personally, I’m not a vegetarian, but I am not a heavy meat eater either. I regularly enjoy meals and even days without meat while following the Ketogenic Diet.
Here’s an example of what a full day of vegetarian meals looks like on the keto diet:
Here are some keto vegetarian protein ideas for you.
1. Eggs
The perfect, whole protein source. Here are some low carb vegetarian ways to enjoy eggs:
- Fried, poached or scrambled for breakfast and enjoyed with a side of vegetables, avocado and/or dairy
- Hard boiled egg and avocado salad
- Egg & Mayo Salad (Pictured above) – mix hard boiled eggs with sour cream, mayo, mustard and salt and pepper to taste.
- Devilled eggs
- Chocolate Mousse
- Homemade Mayonnaise
2. Dairy
The highest protein dairy sources include:
- Feta
- Parmesan
- Ricotta
- Cream Cheese
- Natural/Greek Yoghurt
3. Nuts & Seeds
Nuts, seeds and nut milks are rich in protein and other essential nutrients.
Here are some keto diet friendly ways to enjoy nuts and seeds, which includes whole, ground or as nut/seed butter as appropriate:
- A handful as a snack
- As a salad topping
- Blended through a smoothie
- As a yoghurt topping
- In pancakes or baked treats
4. Green Vegetables
Broccoli, Spinach, Kale and other low carb leafy green vegetables are also keto vegetarian protein sources.
These can be enjoyed in your favourite low carb recipe. I often keep it simple and enjoy a plate full of spinach topped with a homemade salad dressing.
5. Protein Powder
If you feel that you won’t consume sufficient protein in a day from natural keto vegetarian protein sources, then try and find the lowest carb protein powder to supplement.
You could add protein powder to a smoothie, low carb yoghurt or just shake it with a portion of almond milk.
So, as you can tell – there are plenty of low carb keto vegetarian protein sources that are not only nutritious, but delicious too.
