10 Things To Do In Melbourne With Kids

The kids are on Winter School Holidays for the next 2 weeks and my oldest has already TOLD me that we will be “going to the city by train, at least once!” Yes, we will be going for an outing (or two) to Melbourne City, and maybe an outing or two from my favorite 10 things to do in Melbourne:

1. Melbourne City – there’s so much to see and do in the city. From watching trams in Bourke Street Mall, to wandering around Federation Square. Dress the kids warm, hop on a train/tram/bus to the city and go for a wander…

Just arriving at Flinders Street Station is exciting for the kids!

2. Melbourne Zoo – For a full day’s adventure and animals galore, the kids always enjoy an outing to the Melbourne Zoo. The highlights for us are the koalas, giraffe, elephants and delicate butterflies.

3. Melbourne Aquarium – My kids are always in awe of the penguins, sharks and stingrays and enjoy a fascinating outing to the Melbourne Aquarium.

4. Prahran Market – shop for fresh ingredients and enjoy a yummy treat or two.

5. South Melbourne Market – full of an abundance of fresh, local produce and a number of enticing eating options too.

6. Queen Victoria Market -The Vic Market is a foodie’s paradise! My kids love wandering through the hall of delicatessens, trying cheeses and other scrumptious treats.

7. Luna Park -my kids are still a bit too little(short!) to go on rides just yet, so it’s a cheap outing for us. We walk through and look at the rides and they enjoy watching others having fun. I usually let them play an arcade game or two.

8. A Museum – whether it’s The Melbourne Museum, Scienceworks, or The Immigration Museum, the kids will have a ball and not even realize they are on a learning expedition!

9. Mornington Peninsula – take the kids for a short day trip and dream of summer on the Mornington Peninsula.

10. The Dandenongs – for a (hopefully) relaxing drive up The Dandenongs and maybe a ride on Puffing Billy or a sweet treat at one of the quaint cafes in the mountains.
