Keto Road Trip Snacks

Keto Road Trip Snacks

This week we are going on a road trip to Galway, which is about a 3 hour drive from us. In preparation, I’ve been putting together Keto Road Trip Snacks to keep us nourished without having to turn to carb loaded indulgences.

I tend to try and avoid eating meals or finding snacks at gas stations or convenience stores because the prices tend to be much higher and it’s way too easy to be tempted to stray from keto lifestyle friendly foods. All it takes is a little planning and you can be equipped with healthy snacks that are low in net carbs.

In this blog post I’m sharing what I’m taking with me as well as more keto snack ideas, including both savory items that are loaded with healthy fats and sweet treat ideas that are low carb diet approved.

Keto Road Trip Snacks - Ideas for low carb and Ketogenic Diet friendly food for snacks and meals when you travel or for on the go.

Low Carb Travel Snacks

Keto snack of biltong or jerky

Meat Snacks – I’m taking beef sticks and Biltong, which is a South African meat snack similar to Beef Jerky. You may also want to take along pork rinds, deli meats, meat sticks, pepperoni slices or salami as high protein easy keto snacks.

With all meat snacks, check the ingredients and nutrition label carefully as carbs can often be hidden in added sugars and fillers.

Also, consider bringing along a cooler to keep your meat and other snacks refrigerated, safe and cool. (Find one here!)

Keto snack of Raspberries

Berries & Cucumber – I’m taking raspberries and cucumber slices, which I’ll wash, prep and take along in a meal prep container for when I want a fresh snack. Berries are especially a refreshing great keto snack on a summer road trip, one that the entire family will appreciate.

Keto snack of macadamia nuts - Keto Road Trip Snacks

Nuts – Nuts are an excellent source of fibre and protein when you’re on the go and make one of the best keto snacks that are easy to find at your local grocery store.

Macadamia nuts are my go to, while my Husband loves peanuts. Whatever nut you go for, portion them out to avoid overeating them, which is sooooooo easy to do.

Keto snack of peppermint tea

Tea – I LOVE Peppermint Tea, so tend to always travel with tea bags to enjoy a cup no matter where I go. Feel free to take along your favorite keto tea, or keto coffee, instead.

Keto snack of cheese

Cheese – There are so many cheesy options when it comes to Keto Snacks. We love Babybel cheese, but you can take your favorite choice of cheese instead, including cheese sticks, cream cheese or cheese crisps. Just make sure to enjoy the cheese early on in the road trip and also pack them in your cooler to be safe.

Keto snack of chocolate

Dark Chocolate – A row or two of dark (90%+) chocolate is another one of my low-carb travel snacks I turn to when I’m on the go. As with nuts, be sure to exercise strict portion control to avoid consuming the WHOLE block!

You can satisfy your sweet tooth by enjoying a row of chocolate on it’s own or maybe even smothered with a little peanut butter as a great snack to keep your blood sugars in check.

More Low Carb Travel Snack Ideas

Here are even more ideas for keto friendly snacks to give you inspiration for your next road trip or enjoy in your hotel room while you’re on the road.

Protein Shake

Take along a protein shaker already filled and mixed up with your favourite low carb protein powder. (Like this one.) Or, you could take the protein powder and a carton of milk along to make Keto Protein Shakes on the go. You could also take along healthy low carb protein bars for a great way to meet your protein macros.

Hard Boiled Eggs

Zero point snack idea - deviled eggs

Cook up hard boiled eggs, peel and easily enjoy as a snack on the go.

Egg Salad

Keto Tuna and Egg Salad in A Bowl

Use your hard boiled eggs in an egg salad or you can often find ready made egg salad, which is used to make sandwiches, that can be enjoyed by the spoonful instead.

Avocado

Vegetables for keto tuna salad

The ultimate, instant keto snack. Just slice open and enjoy! Make sure you remember to pack some travel cutlery so that you can enjoy your avocado without any mess!

Tuna

Tuna topped cucumber - low carb high protein Keto Road Trip Snacks

Take along a small tin of tuna and, if you’re like me, then you may be able to happily enjoy it on it’s own, by the spoonful. Or, buy a packaged salad of greens while you’re on the go and simply add your tin of tuna and avocado to make a nourishing and keto friendly tuna salad.

Cheese Crackers

Low Carb cheese crackers

You can easily make homemade cheese crackers by melting a tablespoon of cheese in a hot frying pan. Cook until crispy and you have the easiest, cheesiest crackers ever! Cheese crackers make a better option when you’re craving crunchy, salty junk food like potato chips.

Snack Without Guilt

Taking along a selection of Keto Road Trip Snacks means that you’ll have heaps of options when you start getting hungry and will tide you over until you can find a full meal.

Importantly, don’t feel guilty and drive yourself crazy when you’re on the go. Be kind to yourself, enjoy your journey and make food options that help you feel good.
