Mediterranean Snack Ideas – the best delicious foods for easy snacks that you can include in a Mediterranean Diet. With a video talking you through some of the snacks I keep to hand.
Mediterranean Snack Ideas
These Mediterranean Snack Ideas are all simple healthy snacks to keep in your fridge, pantry and even handbag to grab when you’re needing a little sustenance between meals.
All of the easy snack ideas are Mediterranean Diet friendly and most are low carb friendly too, with a few exceptions as noted in the list. It really depends on what your own personal health and weight loss goals are about the foods to include in your diet or not. (For more inspiration, here are 30 Mediterranean Low Carb Recipes and 25 Mediterranean Breakfast Ideas.)
Fruit and Vegetables
Keeping a range of nutritious fresh fruit and vegetables to hand makes the perfect snack that usually needs little to no prep work.
With fresh vegetables choose from avocado, red peppers, cucumber, red onion, fresh tomatoes or leafy greens in a salad or with a delicious dip such as Baba Ghanouj, Red Lentil Dip or Hummus.
Regarding fresh fruit, low carb options include berries and lemons or limes which you can enjoy as lemon juice or lime juice over a salad.
If you’re not following a low carb diet, then feel free to enjoy any fresh fruit or dried fruit you like as a great option for an instant snack.
High Protein Mediterranean Snack Ideas
I usually hard boil a pot full of eggs each weekend so I have hard boiled eggs to grab as snacks through the week. I’ve also been finding more and more packages of already hard boiled eggs at supermarkets that you can grab and instantly enjoy.
You may prefer a good snack of fish or seafood as a high protein option, choose from tuna, salmon, sardines or mackerel, all of which have multiple health benefits. (Source.)
Nuts and Seeds
A handful of nuts or seeds makes a tasty way to enjoy a protein and fiber rich healthy diet snack. You may even want to put together a trail mix of your own personal mix of nuts and seeds. Here are some ideas:
- Almonds
- Cashews
- Walnuts
- Peanuts
- Sunflower Seeds
- Pumpkin Seeds
- Sesame Seeds
- Chia Seeds
- Coconut Flakes
You can also enjoy nut butters such as peanut butter either by the spoonful or to complement other Mediterranean snacks in this list.
Dairy Products – Easy Mediterranean Snack Ideas
Dairy makes a satisfying snack that can be enjoyed by the cube or mixed in a salad or with other simple ingredients.
Some of my favorites to satisfy snack cravings include feta cheese, goat cheese, brie, parmesan cheese and plain Greek yogurt.
Whole Grains
When following a traditional Mediterranean Diet, whole grains can form an important part of your daily calories. You may choose to include wholegrain pita bread, pita chips or crackers as a great snack option to take you through until your next meal.
Beans and Lentils
Another non-low carb snack time option are beans and lentils that you can enjoy as a salad (such as this Mediterranean Chickpea Salad) or as a pita filling.
Choose from chickpeas or garbanzo beans, lentils, black beans, edamame beans or any other beans or lentils that you like.
