Hotel Room Snacks

We just returned from a lovely week long trip to London and Rotterdam. And, while in London our hotel didn’t have a kitchen or even a fridge.

It can get pretty expensive eating out at every meal for our family of 4. So, I headed to a local supermarket for no cook, healthy foods to enjoy as hotel room snacks. (And save a bit of money too!)

We had a Lidl store in walking distance to our hotel, which is a budget friendly chain similar to ALDI. Have a look on google maps for supermarkets near your hotel to make it easy to stock up on food on the way back after a day out.

We also took early morning walks to Lidl for breakfast supplies and headed back to our hotel room to enjoy a breakfast in our room. For breakfast we usually each picked a yogurt, had a hard boiled egg (or two) and a piece of fruit.

Healthy Hotel Room Snack Ideas

Here are the foods that we enjoyed during our recent stay and some ideas for more foods you could easily enjoy in your hotel room.

Fruit

On day 1 I like to buy a bag each of apples, bananas and mandarins or oranges. So, there’s a rainbow of fruit to choose from that require no prep.

Vegetables

Cucumber and carrots are our go to. We just snap them into pieces – no cutlery required. You could also pick ready prepared salads to pick at for a rainbow of healthy vegetables.

Hard Boiled Eggs

Every supermarket in England seems to have their own brand pot of spinach and a couple of hard boiled eggs. We enjoyed these as a protein rich snack or breakfast.

Yes, it’s WAY pricier than doing it yourself, but when you don’t have kitchen ready hard boiled eggs work out to be an economical, instant, healthy protein option.

Cheese

We all love cheese, so chose a different block each day. We simply broke it into pieces and enjoyed the whole block between the 4 of us in one go. So, we didn’t have to worry about refrigeration.

And yes, smaller cheese is more expensive than in bulk but it worked out cheaper than eating a meal out and we got to sample a different cheese each day!

Tuna & Smoked Salmon

My youngest son will happily eat tuna straight out a can and my oldest son adore smoked salmon. Both make excellent, instant hotel room snacks.

Yogurt

All you need is a spoon to enjoy a small tub of yogurt. We sometimes had them plain and other times mixed in a handful of nuts, chia seeds or a store bought paleo granola that we found.

We each chose a different flavour every day and had them straight away, without having to worry about refrigeration.

Chocolate Dessert

We were on holiday after all, so indulged in chocolate desserts that we found. Depending where in the world you are, you may want to enjoy a healthy local dessert that you can find.

Vegetable Crisps/Chips

A selection of vegetable crisps or chips kept my kids happy and full to complete a meal.

We found that the above hotel room snacks helped save money while travelling and also nutritionally balanced the rest of the meals that we ate out during our trip.
