Chocolate Banana Oatmeal Recipe – Easy Vegan friendly breakfast recipes & vegetarian breakfast ideas with no eggs & gluten free too!
Chocolate Banana Oatmeal Recipe
Since moving to a vegetarian diet, I’ve been loving experimenting with different oatmeal flavours for breakfast.
This is my latest favourite – chocolate banana oatmeal. It tastes like a bowl of pudding for breakfast. I love how the banana cooks into the rich, chocolate oatmeal and becomes gorgeously gooey.
How To Make Chocolate Oatmeal
To make oatmeal, first, you’ll need oats! If you’re wanting this to be gluten free, then just be sure that you’re using gluten free oats. You can used rolled or porridge oats – just depends on your preference.
The larger the oats, the longer they will take to cook. I adore rolled oats in mine, so that’s what I used in this instance.
Regarding sweetener, I used maple syrup because it’s my favourite sweetener. You can use stevia, brown sugar, honey (if you include it in your diet) or any other sugar or sweetener you usually use.
If you’re wanting a dairy free, vegan friendly oatmeal, then simply use your go to dairy free milk of choice. I choose to use half a cup of my milk of choice and half a cup of water for the perfect flavour and texture. You can use all water or all milk if you prefer, though the finished flavour will be different.
Combine your chosen ingredients together in a small saucepan and bring up to a simmer over medium heat, stirring regularly. Once simmering, reduce the heat to a gentle bubble and cook until softened to your liking.
You can enjoy your chocolate banana oatmeal as is or topped with more banana, nuts or your oatmeal toppings of choice.
