Dark Chocolate Pudding Recipe – How to make a quick, easy and simple homemade no bake chocolate pudding dessert with cornstarch and chocolate chips – without eggs – with the video tutorial.
Dark Chocolate Pudding Recipe
This dark chocolate pudding recipe makes an indulgent homemade dessert that’s quick and easy to prepare, perfect for a dinner party, special occasion, Valentine’s Day or just when you’re craving something sweet and homemade.
The warm pudding makes a budget friendly treat that you can make with items that are easy to find at your local grocery store.
You can enjoy the pudding straight away as a warming comfort dessert or allow the pudding to cool completely then pour it into individual serving bowls or ramekins, cover with plastic wrap over the surface of the pudding and enjoy chilled from the fridge, in which case the dessert will be beautifully thickened and luxuriously rich.
This recipe is egg free, so you don’t need to hassle with egg yolks or egg whites to create the dessert – the cornstarch and chocolate work together to thicken the dessert perfectly.
Homemade Pudding Ingredients
Here are the ingredients that you’ll need to make the homemade dark chocolate pudding:
Cocoa Powder – you can use regular cocoa powder, unsweetened cocoa powder or cacao powder for intense chocolate flavor in the dessert.
Sugar – you can use regular white sugar, caster sugar, brown sugar, stevia, maple syrup, honey or your sweetness of choice. Use as little or as much as you like, depending on how sweet you usually like your sweet treats to be.
Salt – to enhance the flavor in rich desserts, add a pinch of salt. You could also add in vanilla extract to enhance the flavor of the pudding.
Cornstarch – corn starch or corn flour is used to thicken the dessert to a smooth consistency, and is naturally gluten free, making the dessert allergy friendly too.
Milk – for the milk mixture, you can use whole milk or a dairy free milk of your choice in the recipe, including oat milk, almond milk or coconut milk. You could also swap some of the milk for heavy cream or even chocolate milk for a truly rich, indulgent dessert.
Chocolate – in this instance, for the chocolate mixture, I’ve used a whole 100g/3.5 ounce bag of dark chocolate chips but you can use any type of chocolate you like including milk chocolate if you prefer or any dark or bittersweet chocolate you like in the dessert.
You can enjoy the hot pudding as is or topped with whipped cream, crème fraîche, fresh berries or a little bit of chocolate shavings on top of the pudding for an even more decadent dessert experience.
Dark Chocolate Pudding Recipe
- 1/4 to 1/3 Cup Cocoa Powder
- 2-3 Tablespoons Sugar
- Pinch of Salt
- 2 Tablespoons Cornstarch or Cornflour
- 2 Cups Milk
- 3.5/100g ounces Dark Chocolate Chips or Chopped Chocolate
- Place the cocoa powder, sugar, salt and cornstarch or cornflour into a medium saucepan and, using a silicone or rubber spatula, wooden spoon or metal spoon, stir to combine.
- Slowly pour over the milk, stirring as you pour to incorporate the milk into the dry ingredients.
- Move the saucepan to the stove top over medium heat, slowly heat to a full boil then reduce to a gentle boil, while stirring or whisking continuously so that nothing sticks to the bottom of the pan.
- Remove from the heat once the pudding mixture has thickened and coats the back of the spoon.
- Add the chocolate and stir until fully melted and incorporated in the pudding.
- Enjoy the homemade chocolate pudding immediately while warm or allow to cool completely to room temperature then move to the fridge and enjoy once thickened and chilled from the fridge within a couple of days.
