I’m a sucker for all things cheesy. Especially cheese sauces like. I can’t get enough of them!
This low carb cheese sauce is great in place of a carb loaded cheese sauce – especially with low carb veggies like steamed broccoli or roasted cauliflower.
Keto sauces are a great way to liven up plates of low carb food and the best part is that they keep meals interesting, helping you achieve your health and weight loss goals.
The 3 Simple Ingredients
The keto diet friendly homemade cheese sauce that’s low in net carbs only needs the following 3 simple ingredients:
Sour Cream – my favorite way of achieving a tangy flavor is we creamy sour cream. You can swap for cream cheese if you’d prefer.
Heavy Cream – for luxurious creaminess heavy cream is used. You can substitute with heavy whipping cream, coconut cream or any other cream you’d like. You could also swap for unsweetened almond milk if you’d prefer to keep the carb count down in the creamy keto cheese sauce.
Cheese – grated or shredded cheese adds the lovely cheesy flavor and thickens the creamy cheese sauce without the need for any flour. Choose from mild or sharp cheddar cheese, parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, Swiss cheese, pepper jack cheese or any other cheese you can find at your local grocery store.
Flavor additions – for extra flavor a great addition can be as simple as a little sprinkle of salt or you may prefer to blend in your choice from black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, Dijon mustard or mustard powder into the great recipe for cheesy sauce.
Dairy Free – the quick recipe for white cheese sauce can easily be adapted to be dairy free if you’re following a dairy free keto diet. Simply swap each ingredient for a dairy free alternative, which are easy to find at grocery stores these days.

Meaty Meal – roast or fry chicken, pork chops or your meat of choice and serve the easy cheese sauce as a side with the main dish.

Low Carb Cheese Sauce Recipe
- 1/2 Cup Sour Cream
- 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream
- 1 Cup Grated Cheese
- Combine the sour cream and heavy cream together in a small saucepan.
- Place it onto medium heat until it just comes up to the boil.
- Add half a cup of the cheese and when melted add the remaining half a cup of cheese.
- Heat until the cheese sauce is bubbling and all the cheese has melted. Serve immediately, storing any leftovers in an airtight container and using within a day.
