Chocolate Trifle Recipe – Easy Low Carb, Gluten Free & Keto Diet friendly dessert ideas – great for Christmas, the holidays, a birthday or special celebration.
Chocolate Trifle Recipe
The other day it was my Husband’s birthday and I thought I’d create a birthday treat for him which combined together his favourite dessert elements – brownies, chocolate mousse, strawberries and cream. And so, this Chocolate Trifle Recipe was born.
This is a wonderfully rich and decadent dessert, which would be perfect for Christmas, the holidays or in place of a birthday cake as I’ve done here.
How To Make A Gluten Free Chocolate Trifle
Start with deciding what your cakey base will be. I went for my Flourless Keto Brownies, which are an easy baked treat to whip up. You can get the full recipe here, and I’ve briefly outlined the process below.
You simply melt together 100g of dark chocolate with 200g of unsalted butter. Then whisk in a quarter of a cup of stevia, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, a pinch of salt and 4 eggs, one at a time.
Then it’s just a matter of folding in almond flour and baking in a well greased baking tray in the oven at 180C/350F for 20 to 25 minutes.
Constructing Your Easy Chocolate Trifle
Once the brownies have cooked and cooled, you can get on and make your chocolate mousse. I’ve shared 5 Low Carb Chocolate Mousse Recipes on the blog, so there are plenty of chocolate mousse options to choose from.
I went for the 3 ingredient chocolate mousse, as it had the least steps and ingredients. Just chocolate, cream and stevia. Though I left the stevia out given the nature of the dessert. You simply melt the chocolate with a couple of tablespoons of cream, then set aside to cool.
For the cream, I whipped up 2 cups instead of one and then when it was whipped, added half to the melted chocolate and saved the other half for the cream layer.
You can use either a large trifle dish or individual glasses, as I did. To put the trifle together, start with a layer of broken brownies. Next, add a layer of chocolate mousse, then top with the whipped cream and maybe a strawberry or two.
