It’s been 2 months since I started my Autoimmune Protocol Diet journey and today I’m going to share my weight loss and results with addressing my Sun Allergy (Solar Urticaria) symptoms. 

Why Did I Follow An AIP Diet Plan?

I decided to follow the AIP Diet after suffering for the past few years with an uncomfortable sun allergy. I was apprehensive to start with and the beginning was brutal. 

It’s an incredibly limiting diet. But, I’m glad that I stuck with the elimination phase for 30 days as the healing I experienced was more than worth the sacrifice.

After moving through the elimination phase of the Autoimmune Protocol Diet and experiencing tremendous healing, it was time for new foods and the AIP Reintroduction Phase. 

I have to admit that I was nervous to add new foods into my diet. I had been feeling better than I could remember and I didn’t want to change that.

But, knowing that the foods I’d be introducing would also (hopefully) be nourishing for my body, I approached reintroductions with a mix of nervousness and excitement. 

After 30 days on AIP I started working through the reintroduction schedule. I was eager to introduce new foods and I tried my best to be patient and allow my body to slowly adjust before introducing one new food after the other. 

I’ve successfully reintroduced eggs, butter, nuts, pepper and cocoa. It’s broadened my diet and I’ve continued to feel good with each introduction.

Through the elimination phase and over the past month of reintroductions, my skin allergy symptoms have become less and less severe. 

Where in the past sun exposure would result in hives, headaches and exhaustion, now I feel almost “normal”. My symptoms that I’ve suffered from over the past couple of years have all but disappeared.

So, after 2 months on AIP, a happy result is that I’ve lost 7.2kg/15.8lbs. I have needed to lose weight for a while and each attempt has been met with a frustrating plateau.

I believe my body was in some sort of healing crisis and holding on to the weight. I have lost about a kilo or so a week.

I feel as if I’m losing it healthily and am continuing to lose with each food introduction. I still have quite a bit or weight to lose, so will be watching the scales as I introduce new foods. 

As you can see from my above progress before and after photos – my skin looks and feels so much healthier than it has in years. Which must be contributing to the improvements in my sun allergy.

I’m so grateful that I made the effort to move through the AIP Diet. The results have been astounding and I couldn’t have hoped for a better overall outcome.
