Easy 7 Layer Salad Recipe

This easy 7 layer salad recipe makes a brilliant make ahead meal or side dish during summer, the holidays or to take to a potluck or picnic.

You can construct the salad in a large salad bowl or dish. Or, you can pop it into a large meal prep container that has a lid, to make it easy to transport. (I use the largest one from this set.)

These are the seven layers in my version of this much loved salad:

Lettuce – I like to start with a bed of greens, in this instance lettuce. Chop or tear the lettuce into bite sized pieces.

Red Pepper – is high in carbs than other vegetables, so, use sparingly. I like to include it for it’s contrasting color and crunch.

Cucumber – slice anyhow you like and include for added texture.

Hard Boiled Egg – to add protein into the salad. I like to boil up a bowl full of eggs and use as many as is needed to fill the layer. (There were 3 in this instance but you may need more or less.)

Avocado – for creaminess and healthy fats. I only included one avocado and that layer was more sparse than others, but still added in plenty of avocado goodness to the salad.

Sour Cream – is my creamy element of choice. By pouring a layer of sour cream on top of the salad, you seal in the freshness of the rest of the salad.

Parmesan – I finish the salad off by topping it with handfuls of flaked parmesan.

  • Lettuce

  • Hard Boiled Egg

  • Sour Cream

  1. Get out a large salad bowl, dish or lidded meal prep container.
  2. Wash the lettuce, tear or chop it into bite sized pieces and place it into your salad dish.
  3. Chop the pepper into bite sized pieces and add to the dish.
  4. Next, layer sliced cucumber.
  5. Peel and slice the hard boiled egg and add it to the salad.
  6. Chop the avocado into bite sized pieces and dot the salad with it.
  7. Pour over the sour cream and smooth it over so that the whole salad is completely covered.
  8. Finally, sprinkle over the parmesan.
  9. Place into the fridge for a few hours and then enjoy.
