3 Cheap Keto Dinner Recipes
These 3 cheap keto dinner recipes make easy meals that are also firm family favorites. (For more inspiration check out my full budget keto grocery list for common ingredients to keep to hand as pantry staples to create a whole range of easy keto dinner recipes.)
You’ll find that you don’t have to spend a fortune to create tasty ketogenic diet friendly meals that are low in net carbs, high in healthy fats and will help with your health and weight loss goals.
1. Keto Spaghetti Bolognese Recipe
This easy low-carb version of spaghetti bolognese has just 3 ingredients, is quick to prepare and the best part is that the entire family will enjoy the brilliant comfort food meal. (And, here are more easy keto comfort food recipes for you, too.)
The three ingredient, basic recipe includes only –
Beef Mince – I tend to use the highest fat ground beef mince I can find at the grocery store. You could mix it up and use any mince you’d like as part of your keto lifestyle.
Low Carb Pasta Sauce – find the lowest carb pasta sauce you can, one without added sugar or hidden carbs. The sauce brings plenty of flavor without the need for additional ingredients, especially when making low carb recipes.
Cabbage – is my keto friendly pasta alternative of choice, simply slice the cabbage into spaghetti sized pieces.
You can go beyond the three ingredients if you want to and include as many of the following low carb diet friendly foods in your dish as you’d like:
- Onion
- Garlic
- Mushrooms
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Bell Peppers
- Grated cheese
- Parmesan Cheese
So, to make the recipe, you’ll need:
- 1lb/500g Beef Mince
- 1 Jar of Low Carb Pasta Sauce
- 1/4 to 1/2 Cabbage
Start by melting coconut oil, olive oil or butter in a frying pan. When hot, add the beef mince and cook until browned. You can also add salt, pepper or any other seasoning you like, to taste.
Then, pour over the jar of pasta sauce and bring the meaty sauce up to a simmer.
While the meat is cooking, slice the cabbage into noodles and add to the meaty sauce.
Cook until the cabbage noodles have softened and the sauce has reduced to your liking. You may need to add more water if it all needs further cooking.
Serve as is or you can top your keto spaghetti bolognese with grated cheese or parmesan.
2. Tuna Cauliflower Casserole
There are only 5 ingredients in the low-carb diet approved recipe and it’s the perfect comfort dish to throw together with (usually) easy to find simple ingredients, especially on a tight budget.
You can substitute in frozen instead of fresh cauliflower or use broccoli or another vegetable instead in the quick meal.
With the creamy ingredients, I adore the combination of cream and sour cream. You can swap in keto diet plan approved ingredients like mayo, cream cheese, coconut milk or plain Greek yogurt, depending on what you have to hand that you usually like to include in simple keto meals.
Here are the 5 main ingredients that you’ll need:
- 1/2 to 1 Head of Cauliflower
- 1 Tin of Tuna
- 1/3 Cup Heavy Cream
- 1/3 Cup Sour Cream
- 2/3 Cup Grated Cheddar Cheese
- Preheat the oven to 180C/350F and get out an oven proof baking dish.
- Chop the cauliflower into bite sized pieces and place into the baking dish.
- Drain the tin of tuna and add to the baking dish. Mix the tuna through the casserole.
- Pour over the cream, sour cream and 1/3 cup of grated cheese and then toss to combine.
- Top with the other 1/3 cup, or more, of grated cheese.
- Place into the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden and cooked to your liking.
- Serve and enjoy.
3. Cheesy Chicken Bake Recipe
Chicken drumsticks are our favorite piece of chicken, so I’ll often make our best ever chicken bake. You can of course swap the drumsticks for chicken thighs or another budget friendly chicken piece from a whole chicken, which usually doesn’t include chicken breasts.
All you need is a package of chicken drumsticks, a jar of low carb pasta sauce, tomato sauce or marinara sauce and cheese.
Place the drumsticks into a baking dish, cover with the pasta sauce and toss until well combined.
Place into the oven, preheated to 180C/350F for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven, toss the chicken over and then top with a generous portion of grated cheese.
Place back into the oven for a final 30 to 45 minutes or until golden and cooked to your liking. You can serve the chicken as is or with your side dish of choice such as cauliflower rice, low-carb tortillas, lettuce wraps or green beans for a delicious meal that the whole family will enjoy.
