You can use any cream you like, it doesn’t have to be double cream, heavy cream or whipping cream, just use whatever you have to hand.

For the chocolate, you can use whatever dark chocolate you like. If you’re making a low carb, keto friendly mousse then make sure it’s low in sugar and 85% plus. You can also add in a couple of tablespoons of stevia, sugar or your sweetener of choice to sweeten your mousse, to taste.

How To Make Orange Chocolate Mousse

3 Ingredients for chocolate orange mousse recipe

Start by gathering your 3 ingredients – chocolate, a whole orange and cream.

Chop up all of the chocolate so that it’s ready for quick and easy melting once the cream has heated.

Peeling an orange

Pour the cream into a small saucepan and add the orange peel, you can do this by carefully peeling it from the orange with the help of a vegetable peeler.

Be sure you get the peel only, with as little as the bitter white pith as possible. You can save the orange itself to enjoy as a snack or in another recipe.

Cooking orange peel

Heat the cream with the orange peel on the stove top over medium heat. This method infuses the cream with natural orange flavor.

Once the cream comes to simmering point, remove it from the heat, then carefully remove and discard the orange peel.

Pour the orange infused cream over the chopped chocolate and stir until smooth and the chocolate has fully melted.

Allow the chocolate mixture to cool slightly, before moving it to the fridge for a few hours to set and thicken into a gloriously decadent, indulgent chocolate orange mousse.

You can serve the mousse as is or topped with grated chocolate, whipped cream or a little grated orange zest, if you like.
