Chocolate Granola Recipe – How to make the best simple and easy homemade healthy dark chocolate chunky granola clusters – gluten free, vegan and paleo diet friendly – with the video tutorial.
Chocolate Granola Recipe
This chocolate granola recipe is full of rich chocolate taste and makes an excellent healthy breakfast, crunchy snack or sweet treat.
Instead of using oats that are usually included in granola recipes, gluten free and grain free sunflower seeds are used to form the bulk of the dry ingredients.
So, with there being no oats in the ingredient list, the grain-free granola is paleo friendly and the lack of dairy means it’s vegan friendly too.
Just be sure to read all the ingredient packaging carefully for “may contain” warnings if you’re gluten or dairy intolerant yourself, or serving the granola to someone who is.
Simple Ingredients For The Easy Recipe
Here’s the list of ingredients that you’ll need for the easy chocolate granola recipe:
Sunflower Seeds – I always pick up sunflower seeds at budget friendly ALDI supermarkets to use in this recipe and to enjoy as a healthy snack. You can also mix in any other seeds you like such as chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, sesame seeds or hemp seeds.
Cashew Nuts – for added crunch, protein and flavor, chopped cashew nuts are the perfect extra nutty element. You can swap for another nut or add in extra different nuts of your choice such as almonds, walnuts, Brazil nuts or pecan nuts.
Dried Figs – chopped dried figs adds a fruity element to the granola mixture. You can swap for any chopped dried fruit you like including goji berries, Medjool dates, cranberries or golden raisins.
Coconut – you can use any kind of coconut including shredded coconut, desiccated coconut, coconut chips or coconut flakes.
Chocolate –the chocolate mixture is made up of both unsweetened cocoa powder or cacao powder as well as cacao nibs, and you can also feel free to mix dark chocolate chips, chocolate bar or dark chocolate chunks through the delicious granola for even more chocolate flavour.
Coconut Oil – to help bind all of the ingredients together, keep the simple recipe dairy free and add in plenty of beneficial healthy fats, coconut oil is added to the wet ingredients for the granola mixture.
Pure Maple Syrup – to achieve the right amount of sweetness, maple syrup is added to the granola. You can feel free to swap for any natural sweeteners you like instead.
Extra Ingredients – here are some ideas for paleo diet friendly ingredients that you can add to the homemade gluten free granola depending on your tastes and dietary requirements – orange zest, almond butter, vanilla extract, pinch of salt, coconut sugar, hemp hearts, ground cinnamon, peanut butter or cashew butter.
You can enjoy the homemade granola recipe in place of a traditional breakfast cereal with almond milk, chocolate milk or yogurt with fresh fruits. Or, enjoy by the handful as a treat or even as an indulgent ice cream topping.
