Best of all, the quick recipe is naturally low in carbs, high in grams of protein and perfect whether you’re following a medically restrictive diet or are simply looking for a healthy meal to enjoy.
The Simple Ingredients For The Easy Recipe
Here are the basic ingredients that you’ll need for the tuna lettuce wrap recipe, plus lots of ideas for extra ingredients that you can add:
Tuna – I’ve included a small can of tuna as I was making this just for me, if you’re making the wraps for the whole family then use a couple of small cans or a large one instead.
You can use any type of tuna you’d like, just read the nutritional panel carefully if you’re following a restrictive diet, to ensure that there aren’t any added carbs of other ingredients that can find their way into a flavored can of tuna.
Sour Cream – my creamy tuna salad ingredient of choice is always sour cream, I love the tangy flavor and incredible creaminess that the ingredient provides. You can feel free to swap for Greek yogurt or mayo, that you would usually find in a classic tuna salad.
Another sauce alternative is to make a dressing by mixing together extra virgin olive oil or sesame oil and lemon juice, lime juice or apple cider vinegar.
Lettuce – to form the wraps I’ve included large fresh lettuce leaves from an Iceberg lettuce head that have been washed and trimmed to form the perfect wrap shapes. You can use any variety of lettuce you’d like including Romaine lettuce leaves or butter lettuce leaves.
Seasoning and Herbs – you can add your seasoning or herbs of choice to flavor the tuna salad mixture, choose from salt, black pepper, fresh dill, garlic powder, onion powder or even chili powder.
Vegetables – there are lots of nutritious vegetables that can be chopped and added to the tuna mixture, depending on your own personal tastes. Choose from chopped green onion, bell peppers, red onion, dill pickles, tomatoes or avocado slices.
Cheese – if you’d like to make your meal a little bit cheesy, then you can top or mix through grated cheese or crumbled feta cheese or goats cheese for a flavorful high protein meal.
