Easy Pear Crumble Recipe With Oats Topping – A quick gluten free delicious way to enjoy overripe pears – with the video tutorial for the 6 ingredient comfort dessert.
Easy Pear Crumble Recipe
This easy pear crumble recipe has a tasty topping of golden oats and cinnamon – the perfect Winter Comfort dessert, especially when served with an indulgent scoop of vanilla ice cream or swirl of whipped cream.
Best of all the recipe has only 5 simple ingredients – all of which you probably have in your kitchen right now to be able to make the easy dessert.
My whole family adore fruit crisps that have an oaty topping, which means that you don’t need to include all purpose flour so the great dessert is naturally gluten free. (As long as the oats you include are gluten free.)
Ingredients For Pear Crumble With Oats
These are the 6 ingredients you’ll need to make the comfort dessert:
Pears – I found the whole pack of juicy pears used in the recipe reduced to 25 cents because they were past their best and a bit soft. The ripe pears turned out perfectly when baked into the fall dessert.
I’d suggest ideally including fresh pears in the pear filling, but you can feel free to used canned pears if you’re craving the comforting dessert and pears aren’t in season and easily found in grocery stores just yet.
Butter – I’ve suggested unsalted butter in the crisp recipe, but you can feel free to use salted butter or a dairy free butter alternative if you’d like the buttery crumble to be dairy free or vegan friendly.
You can use cold butter straight from the fridge, you don’t need to let it stand at room temperature before using, as is often the case when preparing a crumble mixture.
Oats – ideally use rolled oats in the dessert, although I have also successfully made it with finer porridge oats too.
If you want the delicious recipe to be completely gluten free then be sure to use gluten free oats.
Ground Cinnamon – my warm spice of choice as a great addition to infuse the delicious pear dessert with fall flavors.
You can add in more or less of the suggested half teaspoon cinnamon, depending on how strong flavored you’d like delicious pear crisp to be.
Coconut Sugar -you can feel free to swap the coconut sugar for brown sugar, raw sugar, white sugar or any sugar or sweeteners you like, and use more or less sugar than is suggested in the easy recipe, depending on your personal preference for how sweet you like your sweet treats as well as the sweetness of your fruit.
Pure Maple Syrup – for a second element of sweet indulgence, I like to mix maple syrup through the crumble batter.
Crumble Variation Ideas
Here are ideas for more ingredients that you include in your crumble:
- Add in chopped or flaked almonds/walnuts/pecans for an extra crispy topping
- Mix through sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds or sesame seeds
- Stir through lemon juice, lime juice or orange juice or zest
- Add in chopped apples for an apple crumble, plums for a plum crisp, or mixed berries for mixed fruit crumbles
- Swap the pure maple syrup for honey in the crisp topping
- Add in 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract or a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor
- Add in nutmeg, mixed spice or ginger for a spiced crumble
You can enjoy a portion of the easy pear crumble on it’s own or top with pouring cream, whipped cream or ice cream for a wonderfully indulgent dessert.
