3 Ingredient Chocolate Mousse Recipe – How To Make An Easy No Bake Dark Chocolate Mousse Dessert with only three ingredients – plus the step by step video tutorial.
3 Ingredient Chocolate Mousse
Chocolate mousse has to be one of my favorite, go to desserts and it doesn’t get much easier than this 3 ingredient chocolate mousse that will please all chocolate lovers, especially on a special occasion or Valentine’s Day.
The 3 simple ingredients are all budget friendly too, especially if you shop for them at a discount supermarket like ALDI as I have done.
You can adapt the quick recipe depending on your dietary restrictions, making the dessert dairy free, sugar free or low carb and keto diet friendly depending on the chocolate and cream you use.
Quick safety note – this chocolate mousse includes raw eggs. Don’t serve to babies, young children, pregnant or anyone with a weakened immune system. Ensure you use fresh eggs and if in doubt – look for another chocolate mousse recipe that doesn’t have eggs instead. (Here’s an eggless chocolate mousse with cream cheese and cocoa powder!)
How To Make Dark Chocolate Mousse
I find that preparing the easy recipe is almost a therapeutic task. The slow melting, whisking and folding creates a decadent chocolate dessert that’s a delight to watch unfold, and then a delight for your sweet tooth.
To make the chocolate mousse, first melt the chocolate with cream. As you’re heating the cream, it really doesn’t matter what time of cream you use. It doesn’t have to be heavy cream, heavy whipping cream, or double cream as is often used in chocolate mousse recipes.
You can also make the great recipe dairy free by using coconut milk or coconut cream instead of full fat dairy cream. So, it really can be budget friendly and you can pick a cream to suit your budget.
Regarding the chocolate, you can use any chocolate you like. I went for an 85% block of chocolate that I found at ALDI for 95 cents.
I find it to be sweet enough but you could had a few tablespoons of sugar or powdered sugar while you’re melting the chocolate if you’d like a sweeter mousse. You could even use a block of mint or orange chocolate for a flavored chocolate mousse sweet treat or chocolate chips of your choice for quick melting.
You can melt your chocolate and cream in a double boiler, but I just melt it straight in a small saucepan over low heat. Keep a close eye on the chocolate, stirring constantly until it’s completely melted. Take the chocolate off of the heat and allow to cool while you see to your eggs.
For the eggs, separate them into two bowls. Or, in my case I used a bowl for the egg whites and small mug for the yolks, to add to the chocolate one at a time later on.
Whisk the egg whites with an electric beater until they are thickened and fluffy. Then, move them aside, pour the chocolate into a second bowl and whisk in the yolks, one at a time until you have a rich chocolate mixture.
Finally, fold the thickened egg whites into the chocolate until you have a smooth chocolate mousse.
Move the perfect dessert into a serving dish or individual bowls/ramekins, as I did in this instance.
Place the rich chocolate mousse into the fridge for a few hours to thicken and then enjoy. You could top the decadent dessert with whipped cream, coconut flakes, cacao nibs, chocolate shavings or chopped fresh strawberries too if you like.
