Recently I found a pack of about a dozen needing to be used ASAP lemons and limes at the supermarket for just 5 cents. (Crazy, I know!)

So, I’ve been making my low carb lemon curd, lemon ricotta cake, lemon mousse and experimenting with other easy recipe ideas too as a great way to make the most of the zingy flavor and natural immune system boost.

So, thanks to my bounty of lemons, today I’m sharing a recipe for a nourishing lemon superfood smoothie. The flavors just work so well together and the smoothie is refreshing and full of fresh lemon juice and natural sweetness. 

A whole lemon makes an easy way to add more vitamin c and a natural energy boost from a single ingredient, to the diet of your whole family. (Source.)

Simple ingredients for the easy recipe

The turmeric is optional, but I’d encourage you to give it a try. Not only does it brighten up the smoothie, but it also brings it’s unique flavour to it too. 

You can make up your cup of liquid with any combination of milk, heavy cream and yogurt. You can use dairy free or full dairy products. For the milk choose from dairy free milks such almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk, soy milk or even hemp milk, or you could use whole milk in the easy smoothie if you’d prefer.

Just make sure that if you’re following a low carb diet, the yogurt you include in the simple smoothie is plain yogurt, Greek yogurt or natural yogurt and as low carb as possible. I’ve also added in heavy cream for it’s healthy fat content and luxurious creaminess.

You can also add in optional extra ingredients such as chia seeds, hemp seeds, grated fresh ginger, vanilla extract, coconut water or any fresh fruit or frozen fruit you like for an extra boost of energy to your healthy smoothie recipe.

Easy low carb smoothie with lemon and other superfoods

Lemon Superfood Smoothie Recipe

  • 1/2 Cup Milk of Choice
  • 1/4 Cup Cream
  • 1/4 Cup Natural Yogurt
  • Lemon Zest and Lemon Juice from Half a Lemon
  • 1-2 teaspoons Stevia
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric (Optional) 
  1. Place all of the ingredients into a high-speed blender. 
  2. Blend until smooth. 
  3. Taste to check it’s sweet enough. If not, add more stevia and blend until smooth and tastes sweet enough to your liking. 
  4. Pour into a glass and enjoy.

How to make a superfood smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Milk of Choice
  • 1/4 Cup Cream
  • 1/4 Cup Natural Yogurt
  • Zest and Juice of Half a Lemon
  • 1-2 teaspoons Stevia
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Place all of the ingredients into a blender. 
  2. Blend until smooth. 
  3. Taste to check it's sweet enough. If not, add more stevia and blend until smooth and tastes sweet enough to your liking. 
  4. Pour into a glass and enjoy.
