Vegetarian Travel Snacks – easy ideas for healthy meat free snacks that are perfect for on the go, plane travel and road trips.
Vegetarian Travel Snacks
In a few days we travel from Ireland to England and then will be exploring England with a couple of 4+ hour road trips.
So, I’m getting prepared and putting together some vegetarian travel snacks to see us through without relying on expensive (and unhealthy) food on the road.
If you’re a long time reader of my blog, then you may be surprised to learn that I’ve recently moved from a Keto to a Vegetarian Diet. So, from today the content on my blog will be a mix of low carb and high carb post – all vegetarian friendly.
Vegetarian Snack Ideas
And, as I’m very newly vegetarian I’ve been taking my time to look into different options that will satisfy my hunger without much relied upon non-vegetarian foods of the past.
I’ve also visited my local health food store to stock up on some high protein snack foods to enjoy while the rest of my family enjoy meaty foods on our travels.
Some I’ll take from home for the plane trip and our first afternoon/evening there and then I plan to visit a local supermarket for more fresh produce for our road trip.
Nuts
I’ve been accumulating a collection of nuts and nut butters to snack on. Those nut butter packets (like these) are also handy to keep on hand.
Cheese
If cheese agrees with you, then it’s easy to take along a couple of cheese varieties.
Fruit & Vegetables
Bananas, apples, grapes, berries and dried fruit such as dates make excellent nutrient dense snacks that can be easily enjoyed on the go.
Vegetables such as cucumber, carrots and tomatoes can be washed and chopped to enjoy on their own or with a creamy dipping sauce or hummus.
Baked Treats
Before leaving home, I plan to whip up a batch of my recently shared no bake peanut butter cookies.
Other easy options are cinnamon roasted almonds, almond butter cookies or really your favourite baked treat which travels well.
Vegetarian Sandwich
For enjoying on the day, why not make a sandwich which is a meal sized snack. Fill with your favourite vegetarian sandwich items.
Trail Mix
Make your own trail mix by combining together your favourite nuts, seeds and dried fruit. Then, package together in small containers to enjoy portion controlled vegetarian travel snacks on the go.
Chocolate
Good quality chocolate makes a satisfying snack that’s easily transportable. I like the dark chocolate from ALDI that’s already divided into individually wrapped rows.
Protein Bars
There are tons of options for protein bars, (like these) just read the ingredients carefully and pick on that you’re happy to include in your diet.
Jerky
Nowadays there are lots of options of vegetarian and vegan jerky. (Like this.) And, I’ve even found an option at my local ALDI.
Yogurt
A carton of high protein yogurt makes an easy and tasty snack. You can even take along some chia seeds and make a chia pudding on the go.
Just be sure that when travelling by plane you check and stick to any liquid requirements – that includes yogurt!
Hard Boiled Eggs
A snack to make, take along and enjoy ASAP if you don’t have refrigeration. I’ve also often found already hard boiled eggs from supermarkets that makes snacking on the go even easier.
You could even enjoy devilled eggs, which are so easy to make. (Here’s a recipe with just 2 ingredients.)
Popcorn
You can make your own (here’s how) or there are loads of brands out there that include the bare minimum ingredients, making it almost as good as home made. (This salted caramel popcorn looks incredible!)
Remember To Stay Hydrated
Travel makes you thirsty! Keep a bottle of water to hand and remember to drink, often. You may even choose to treat yourself with a bottle of coconut water for the ultimate hydration snack.
As you can tell, once you look into it, there are loads of easy vegetarian travel snacks that you can enjoy on the go.
