Almond Milk Hot Chocolate Recipe

This easy almond milk hot chocolate has been my sweet treat staple lately.

It’s so easy to make, is a rich, chocolatey, comforting drink and so wonderfully warming on a cold day.

Healthy Hot Chocolate Ingredients

Here are the wholesome ingredients that are included in the healthy hot chocolate that the whole family can enjoy together on a chilly winter day.

I use 100% dark chocolate, which I’ve found on Amazon and at a couple of supermarkets here in Ireland. The 100% dark chocolate is virtually inedible on it’s own as it’s so incredibly bitter.

Ingredients - almond milk, chocolate and maple syrup

But, melted into a warm drink and mixed with maple syrup it becomes chocolate perfection on a cold weather day.

I’ve been enjoying cooking with the 100% chocolate because it’s void of dairy and other fillers that find their way into store bought chocolate.

If you’d like your hot chocolate mix to be extra chocolatey then simply mix through a spoon of unsweetened cocoa powder or dark chocolate chips to really satisfy those chocolate craving moments.

Whisking together the ingredients

Following my AIP Diet Journey, nutritious maple syrup has been my go to sweetness of choice lately. To enhance the chocolate flavor, you can add in a pinch of sea salt to the simple ingredients.

If you’d prefer for the delicious hot chocolate to be a low carb, sugar free and keto recipe then use stevia instead. Or, you could use whatever sweetness or favorite sweeteners you like in the hot cocoa recipe from sugar, brown sugar, raw sugar or even coconut sugar.

My hot drink recipe simply includes unsweetened almond milk, but you could include any dairy-free milk you like including soy milk, cashew milk, oat milk or even dairy milk including regular milk or whole milk if you include it in your diet.

When measuring out your almond milk, use the mug you’ll be drinking from and add a little bit extra as it does steam away when bubbling.

  1. Pour the almond milk into a small saucepan or small pot and place it over medium heat.
  2. Bring the almond milk up to a boil and once simmering remove from the heat.
  3. Immediately remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the chocolate and maple syrup.
  4. Pour the chocolate mixture into a mug and enjoy.

You can also mix a pinch of salt, vanilla extract, peppermint extract or even cinnamon through your homemade hot chocolate.

And, for a fun way to enjoy the healthy hot chocolate recipe, simply top your sweet drink with coconut milk whipped cream, chocolate sauce, toffee nut syrup or mocha sauce for extra indulgence.
