Best Ever Low Carb Chicken Bake

This recipe was a happy accident of finding a low carb friendly pasta/pizza sauce and buying an abundance of budget friendly chicken legs/drumsticks. (Click through for more tips for Keto On A Budget.) 

It was simply a matter of combining the two together and the resulting deliciousness is what I’m sharing with you today.

Not only is this dish low carb and keto diet friendly – it’s picky eater approved! My two kids ADORED it, even my non chicken adoring 8 year old couldn’t get enough of this dish and actually ate a WHOLE drumstick.

Which is a HUGE achievement in my book as we usually struggle to get him to eat more than a few bites of chicken. So this really is a winner of a dinner!

I like to top my chicken bake with a sprinkling of grated cheese for an extra crispy and slightly cheesy coating. Feel free to leave this step out if chicken and cheese doesn’t appeal to you.

Step By Step Instructions: Keto Chicken Bake

As you’ll see, this recipe couldn’t be simpler. Start by placing 2kg/4.4lbs of chicken drumsticks/legs into a baking dish. You want to make sure the dish is big enough to comfortably fit all of the chicken, without overcrowding.

Pour the pizza/pasta sauce over the chicken. I tend to look and find the lowest carb sauce at the supermarket.

Add the garlic cloves, dotting them between the chicken around the baking dish.

Add salt, pepper and your seasoning of choice and then, using spoons, carefully toss the chicken in the sauce, making sure every corner of chicken is covered in sauce.

Place the Keto Chicken Bake into the preheated oven and cook for 30 to 45 minutes. Remove from the oven, turn the chicken pieces over and top with (optional) grated cheese.

Cook for a final 30 minutes or until golden and crispy to your liking.

  • 2kg/4.4lbs Chicken Drumsticks/Legs
  • 1 Cup Pizza/Pasta Sauce
  • Peeled Garlic Cloves
  • Salt/Pepper to taste
  • Grated Cheese
  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F and get out an oven proof dish.
  2. Fill the dish with the chicken.
  3. Pour over the sauce and dot with the garlic cloves.
  4. Add seasoning of choice and stir to combine.
  5. Place into the preheated oven for 30 to 45 minutes.
  6. Remove from the oven, turn the chicken pieces over, sprinkle over the grated cheese and return back to the oven for a final 30 minutes or until cooked through.
