Coconut Panna Cotta Recipe - How to make an easy coconut milk no bake dessert

Coconut Panna Cotta Recipe

This coconut panna cotta recipe is a tasty version of the classic Italian dessert.

It seems I can’t help but experimenting and coming up a variety of perfect panna cotta flavors. I just adore the silky texture of the simple dessert.

So far I’ve shared mascarpone, chocolate and ricotta versions and today is all about coconut milk, meaning that you can enjoy a dairy-free panna cotta if you like.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients for the recipe

Here are the ingredients that you’ll need for the classic panna cotta sweet treat with coconut flavor:

Coconut Milk – the star of the show – ideally use full-fat coconut milk for a rich, creamy dessert but you could also use light coconut milk, if that’s all you have available.

Milk or Cream – you can use regular milk or heavy cream or for a completely dairy-free dessert then you can use any dairy free milk you like or coconut cream instead.

Blooming gelatin

Gelatin Powder or Agar Agar – you can use either ingredient, if you’d like a vegan coconut panna cotta then be sure to use agar agar or another vegan alternative for gelatin.

Vanilla Extract or Vanilla Bean – you can use vanilla extract or indulgent vanilla beans for a pure vanilla flavored dessert. You could swap the vanilla for lemon juice for a lemon flavored panna cotta.

Stevia for sweetness

Sugar – you can use any sugar or sweetener you like in this recipe including white sugar, brown sugar, coconut sugar or even maple syrup. Or, you can use stevia for a sugar free dessert.

You can also use more or less sugar depending on how sweet you like your sweet treats to be.

How To Make Coconut Milk Panna Cotta

Whisking ingredients together for coconut panna cotta recipe

If this is your first panna cotta, then you’ll pleased to discover how easy the dessert is to make and that is comes together in a couple of minutes.

Start by combining together the gelatin or agar agar with water. I just use room temperature water and it always sets perfectly. Stir well to help the gelatin dissolve in the water and then set it aside.

Combining panna cotta ingredients together in a small pot or saucepan

Then, combine together all of the rest of the ingredients in a small pot, place it on the stove top and heat until warmed through but not yet boiling.

Pour the bloomed gelatin over the hot coconut mixture and whisk well to fully combine.

If you’d like a super fine dessert then simply pass the mixture through a fine sieve or you could even use an immersion blender to blend the creamy ingredients together. I personally don’t find it necessary, with the natural texture being that of the ideal panna cotta, in my opinion.

You can pour the creamy mixture straight into a serving dish or dishes or let the mixture cool then pour it out. Place in the fridge for a few hours or overnight to set, then serve.

A traditional Italian panna cotta makes a decadent dessert to serve at a dinner party, for a special occasion or on Valentine’s day with fresh strawberries.
