These leftover chocolate recipes are a great way to make the most of a bounty of chocolates and candy at times of celebration through the year.
You may want to melt down an excess of leftover Valentine’s Day Chocolate, Easter chocolate such as an Easter Bunny or Egg or incorporate your Halloween Haul into a variety of sweet treats over the course of a couple of weeks or months.
Whenever I have bits of chocolate leftover through the year, I throw them into an airtight container, to keep them as fresh as possible, then enjoy them in one of the following sweet treat inspirations.
20 Leftover Chocolate Recipes
Here are plenty of great ideas and new recipes for making good use of an abundance of chocolate.
The good news is that whether that’s milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate or even leftover cakes with toppings from your day of love – you’re sure to find a simple recipe and different ways to enjoy a new delicious dessert.
1. Chocolate Chip Cookies
Add leftover chopped chocolate, along with vanilla extract, into the cookie dough of your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe.
Or, you could sprinkle your choice of chopped candy over the cookie dough when lined up on your baking sheet lined with a sheet of parchment paper or greaseproof paper, like in the above great recipe for Easy Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies.
2. Chocolate Mousse
Melt chocolate into an indulgent chocolate mousse as the perfect way to take leftover chocolate to the next level, like the above pictured no bake dessert of chocolate mousse with cream cheese or Mascarpone chocolate mousse.
3. Hot Chocolate
Heat a mug of milk until steaming, then remove from heat and mix in a portion of chocolate for a custom made chocolate bar hot chocolate, that’s my personal best way to easily enjoy a little bit of leftover chocolate at a time.
You can even top your mug with plenty of whipped cream, for an extra indulgent sweet treat that’s simply irresistible.
4. Frosting or Ganache
Melt chocolate and whip with cream, unsalted butter and a little sugar or maple syrup for a rich chocolate frosting or ganache.
5. Chocolate Ice Cream
Follow a chocolate ice cream recipe and melt down your leftover chocolate of choice, such as an abundance of chocolate eggs.
6. Chocolate Sauce For Ice Cream
Melt chocolate, along with cream and a splash of milk for a unique chocolate sauce for ice cream or you could make easy 2 ingredient magic shell that’s always a hit with the whole family, and a yum way to enjoy leftover melted chocolate in a popular sweet treat.
7. Granola Bars
Mix leftover chocolate into granola bars or melt some down as a chocolate topping. (Here’s my 4 Ingredient Baked Granola Bar Recipe.)
You could also sprinkle over trail mix ingredients such as a quarter of a cup of almonds, shredded coconut or any other nuts or seeds of choice.
8. Gingerbread House Decorations
Have a designated spot for keeping leftover chocolates and candy through the year. (Make sure it’s well hidden from family members, if need be!)
Then, use it all for elaborate gingerbread house decorations at Christmas time for one of the easiest ways of using up leftover chocolate
9. Chocolate Oatmeal

You can also add in a little cocoa powder and brown sugar for a sweeter, richer oatmeal breakfast bowl that’s one of the best things to start your day with.
10. Cheesecake

You can also top your baked (or no bake cheesecake) with decorations such as leftover eggs, chopped creme eggs or any other Easter fun toppings for the perfect afternoon tea treat that the whole family will adore.
11. Brownies
Melt chocolate into brownie batter or mix chopped chocolate bars into your brownie mixture in place of chocolate chips like in the above double chocolate brownies.
12. Save For Halloween
As with saving for a gingerbread house, stash candy away through the year to then give away at Halloween.
13. Smoothie
Make a healthy chocolate smoothie and mix through some leftover chocolate to balance the goodness.
I like to blend together the chocolate with milk, chia seeds and protein powder too if I want to make a meal of it.
You could also blend fresh fruit such as berries through your smoothie for a chocolate berry drink or even add in leftover chocolate cake to create chocolate cake shakes.
14. Whipped Chocolate Drink
For a more indulgent chocolate drink, blend up a whipped chocolate drink or milkshake with milk, cream and chocolate ice cream. (Along with your leftover chocolate, of course.)
You could always also add in a scoop of protein powder for a nourishing drink with extra protein.
15. Chocolate Cake
Follow the recipe for your favorite chocolate cake (or my best ever low carb chocolate cake recipe or gluten and dairy free chocolate cake) and add in a portion of leftover chocolate for a happy baking experience that breathes new life and chocolate delight.
16. Leftover Chocolate Fudge
Create a unique flavored fudge by mixing leftover chocolate into your favorite fudge batter.
My go to chocolate peanut butter fudge recipe has only 3 simple ingredients and is the perfect way to use up any leftover candy or even mini eggs.
17. Chocolate Truffles
Add chopped chocolate into decadent chocolate truffles, which are really easy to make and will be love at first bite. (Here’s my go to chocolate truffles recipe.)
Simply heat 1/2 a cup of cream over medium-low heat until steaming, then mix in 100g/3.5oz, a tablespoon of butter and a tablespoon of sugar. Mix until smooth, cool then pour into a square dish, pop into the fridge to set then cut into indulgent bite sized truffles.
18. Chocolate Chip Muffins
Mix leftover chopped chocolate into chocolate chip muffins in place of chocolate chips like in the above pictured banana chocolate chip muffins.
19. Overnight Oats
Another indulgent breakfast – mix chopped chocolate into overnight oats or add some as a topping.
20. DIY Ice Cream Bar
Offer a selection of leftover chocolates and candy as sweet toppings options with a DIY Ice Cream Bar that’s always a hit with the whole family.
