Keto Comfort Foods – The Best Quick & Easy Food Ideas and Recipes for Cozy Low Carb & Ketogenic Diet friendly Winter meals, desserts and dinners.
Keto Comfort Foods
The weather has started to change, here in Ireland. The air is crisper and cooler, so I’ve been craving keto comfort foods to warm my soul.
Through my keto diet weight loss journey I’ve enjoyed plenty of easy keto recipes, shared some of my favorites on this blog and also found inspiration from the Keto Comfort Foods Cookbook. (Learn more about the ketogenic cookbook here.)
Keto Comfort Breakfasts
When the weather is chilly, a big hearty breakfast is the perfect way to start the day. Lately I’ve been enjoying big veggie breakfast like the Shakshuka pictured above or a Three Cheese Omelette.
Other options are almond flour or coconut flour waffles, if I’m after an indulgent breakfast or a big meaty fry up with sausages or steak , eggs and vegetables for a meal that will keep me satisfied until lunch.
Keto Comfort Food Dinners
When it comes to dinner, these are my go to Keto Comfort Dishes. Beef and Mushroom soup makes a nourishing meal and I’m going to be working on more keto soups to share with you soon.
My best ever chicken bake is always popular with the whole family, it’s just so easy to prepare and makes the perfect meal when paired with low carb diet friendly cauliflower rice. You can of course get out your slow cooker and easily make a slow cooked meal that’s low in net carbs.
A quick way to enjoy the flavours of a casserole is to use low carb sausages for the meaty portion and make a sausage casserole.
The easy meal takes no time at all to brown all the ingredients, throw over a jar of low carb pasta sauce and simmer for 20 or so minutes until you have a comforting casserole.
Another favourite is Keto Broccoli Casserole, a creamy and cheesy dish that I’ve probably made more than any other recipe on my blog.
There are only 4 ingredients in the classic comfort food recipe – chopped broccoli, heavy cream, sour cream and grated cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese or your cheese of choice.
You can also make keto casseroles with comforting foods like green beans, cauliflower and mushrooms.
Zucchini noodles can be combined together with a few simple ingredients like cream cheese, cream and parmesan cheese to make keto-friendly versions of old favorite pasta dishes.
On moving to Ireland, a local butcher shared the secret with me for how to make the perfect traditional Irish corned beef and cabbage. It’s really easy and results in perfect tender meat and buttery, flavourful cabbage as a side.
Two more favorite comfort foods that are great for dinner are Tuna Noodle Casserole made with budget friendly canned tuna and Egg Roll in a bowl made with ground beef. Both dishes include cabbage in place of noodles and are better than the originals. (At least I think so!)
Crunchy Keto Fried Chicken is a low carb friendly way to enjoy “can’t get enough of it” juicy fried chicken. This delicious keto recipe has tender chicken with a cheesy crust and is always a hit with my kids.
Low-Carb Diet Dessert Ideas
A baked custard is a delicious recipe that makes a creamy, dreamy dessert that’s great to prepare when you’re craving a custardy sweet treat.
For chocolate treats, my favourites are Chocolate Cheesecake Brownies, Chocolate Cake and Chocolate Pudding – all keto friendly recipes that satisfy chocolate cravings.
And last, but not least my ultimate comfort food – Hot Chocolate. I have hot chocolate of some description most days when the weather is chilly. It’s the perfect way to keep warmed and nourished.
Personally, I prefer the cooler weather to the sweltering Summer we just had. I adore getting cozy and warm with one of these Keto Comfort Foods and I hope you will too!
