10 Best Keto Foods To Eat

I’ve been on and off the Ketogenic Diet for a couple of years now and there are some foods which I just ALWAYS have in my kitchen to ensure Keto Diet success. (If you’re starting out, click through for my tips for Keto Day 1)

Those foods make up my 10 best keto foods to eat that you’ll find at the grocery store and I’m sharing the list and meal ideas with you today.

1. Cheese

Cheese is always a must on a low-carb diet. Whether it’s grated, whole, feta, cottage cheese, cream cheese or brie – I always have a variety of cheese choices in my fridge.

My favorite cheesy Keto meals are a three cheese omelette and garlic baked brie (pictured above).

2. Heavy Cream & Sour Cream

Usually I write “all the creams” on my shopping list and make sure I keep stocked up on high fat diet dairy products – sour cream and heavy cream. Which usually includes a selection of pouring and thickened or whipping cream.

Sour cream is great to enjoy as a side with most keto meals, helping bring the fat content up. Cream is delicious mixed into vegetables to make a creamy sauce or even in chocolate mousse.

3. Butter

I go through so much butter that I make sure to always include a stick or two on my shopping list. I use it for frying, baking and cooking.

You may prefer coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil or another option, but whatever you include, you’ll find that you use it generously on Keto to keep your daily carb count down.

4. Eggs

Another essential staple – eggs, particularly egg yolks that are a good source of healthy fats, are a must when I’m following the Ketogenic Diet.

I have eggs most mornings for breakfast, either fried, in an omelette or scrambled. (Here are even more Keto Breakfast Ideas.)

If I’m feeling particularly indulgent then I may even enjoy a big breakfast fry up, like the Halloumi Breakfast Fry Up, pictured above.

5. Mince

To include moderate protein in my diet, I tend to have red meat only a couple of times a week. Lately I’ve been buying a big kilo or 2 pound package of grass-fed beef mince to enjoy over a few days.

I’ll either have burgers, bolognese loaded with cheese or egg roll in a bowl. All keto and budget friendly too.

6. Broccoli

You’ll find that on a keto diet plan, starchy vegetables are best avoided to keep your carb intake down. So, the next few best keto diet foods are my go to low-carb vegetables of choice, starting with broccoli.

I enjoy broccoli in a fry up for breakfast, as broccoli rice (pictured above), a broccoli salad for lunch or in a cheesy broccoli casserole. It’s such a versatile vegetable while being low in carbs and highly nutritious.

7. Spinach

Leafy greens are one of the lowest carb vegetables on the keto food list and wonderful as a side with eggs, in salads with creamy salad dressings or even a indulgent creamed spinach. (Here are 5 Keto Spinach Recipes.)

8. Avocado

A Keto Diet staple that’s low in carbs and high in healthy fats. Avocado is great as a side with breakfast, mixed into a salad or even with chicken.

9. Chocolate

To be honest, I simply can’t live without having chocolate of some kind in my diet. So, I go for chocolate with fewer carbs such as 85% or 90% Dark chocolate, have a row a day or enjoy it in a Low Carb Hot Chocolate or even in my indulgent (and easy) 3 Ingredient Chocolate Mousse to satisfy my sweet tooth.

10. Berries

Another essential sweet treat for me is berries and cream. Yes, you can have berries on Keto – just be very careful with portion control to keep your total carbs in check.

A handful of berries topped with a generous portion of whipped cream Greek Yogurt makes the perfect healthy diet snack and helps with sweet cravings.
