10 Cheapest Keto Foods – ideas for easy low carb meals on a tight budget with frugal Ketogenic Diet Ingredients for breakfast, lunch, dinners, snacks and desserts.
10 Cheapest Keto Foods
As you’ll see from this blog post, following a low carb diet doesn’t have to cost a fortune. These are the 10 cheapest keto foods include simple ingredients that you can mix and match to create a variety of easy, tasty meals.
I’ve shared a post with heaps of keto on a budget tips, and in this post I’m sharing the 10 foods that are always on my low carb grocery when my budget is extra tight.
You’ll find that buying larger quantities of pantry staples and common ingredients that are low in grams of net carbs will be a lower cost than buying smaller quantities as you need them.
10 Cheapest Keto Foods & Recipes
These whole foods will help you with your keto meal plan weight loss and can be incorporated into meals the whole family will approve of.
1. Spinach
You can enjoy dark leafy greens like spinach as a base for a salad, fried as a side with eggs for breakfast, in a breakfast scramble or in creamed spinach.
2. Broccoli
Broccoli can be simply fried in coconut oil, olive oil or butter as a side with any meal. You could make broccoli rice, which is a broccoli version of cauliflower rice, or a 4 ingredient cheesy broccoli casserole, broccoli salad or broccoli soup.
3. Mushrooms
Versatile mushrooms are a good option that can be enjoyed in a variety of meals or simply fried and enjoyed with meals or mixed with cream for a creamy sauce.
Some of my other go to mushroom recipes are creamy mushroom risotto, mushroom stroganoff and pizza stuffed mushrooms.
4. Cabbage – Cheapest Keto Foods
Cabbage can be chopped and used in place of noodles in a pasta sauce (like this) as pictured above.
Or, you can include cabbage in a cheesy casserole, with corned beef or in the ultimate budget friendly keto meal – egg roll in a bowl.
5. Frozen Fruit
Frozen fruit tends to be more budget friendly for your grocery bill than fresh fruit – especially with keto friendly berries.
Frozen berries can be enjoyed in a smoothie, milkshake or in homemade chia jam.
6. Tuna
One of the cheapest keto foods out there is canned tuna. (Or, if you prefer – sardines, mackerel or another canned option.)
I keep a selection of options in my pantry to pop into a tuna salad, casserole, breakfast scramble or tuna and egg salad.
7. Eggs
There are countless low carb ways to enjoy eggs, that are loaded with healthy fats, for every meal and snack. There’s fried, scrambled, an omelette (like my pizza omelette), deviled eggs or just hard boiled.
And, contrary to popular belief, you can actually healthily enjoy eggs every day. (Source.)
8. Low Carb Dairy On A Budget
Life is just better with dairy! There’s always a selection of dairy options in my fridge to include in meals (like the above pictured 3 Cheese and Zucchini Bake), snacks and desserts that are low in grams of carbs.
I like to compare the price and try to find the best quality dairy for great deals at the lowest price to include in my grocery budget. Here are some ideas to include on your shopping list.
- Butter
- Cheese
- Sour Cream
- Cream
- Mascarpone
- Cream Cheese
- Ricotta
9. Chicken
You can roast a whole chicken, use the bones to make homemade stock and enjoy chicken for days. You’ll find that buying a whole chicken is much cheaper than buying an individual chicken breast or pack of chicken thighs, chicken legs or chicken wings.
Or, there’s my best ever chicken bake, paprika chicken tray bake or easy parmesan chicken nuggets.
10. Mince – Cheapest Keto Foods
There are plenty of low carb friendly ways to enjoy grass-fed meats such as ground beef mince. My go to meals are usually either bunless burgers with avocado and pesto (pictured above), egg roll in a bowl or one pan moussaka.
As you can tell, there really is so much choice of fresh foods that you’ll find at your local grocery store that can save you a lot of money, while making easy keto meals that you can enjoy by mixing and matching the low-carb foods.
